Game Notes
CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's basketball team is set to open the 2019-20 season when they host Campbell University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the HTC Center.
It will be the 43rd meeting between the two long-time rivals with Campbell holding a slim 22-20 lead in the series. Coastal has won the last two meetings and seven of the last 10.
Â
The CCU-Campbell series is the seventh-longest series in CCU basketball history. The only teams CCU has played more are Winthrop (82 times), UNC Asheville (73 times), Charleston Southern (70 times), Radford (59 times), Liberty (55 times) and College of Charleston (50 times).
Â
The Chanticleers have seven players returning off last season's CBI semifinals team led by sophomores
DeVante Jones and
Ebrima Dibba.
Â
Both
Tommy Burton and
Tyrell Gumbs-Frater also return with several starts under their belt, while
Josh Peterson,
Malik LeGania and Issac Hippolyte have also gained a year of experience.
Â
The Chants have loaded the team with eight talented newcomers this season. Junior college transfers
Garrick Green,
Keishawn Brewton, and
Levi Cook will bring their junior college experience along with their talent to the court.
Â
There are also several freshmen that could find their way onto the court.
Tim Ceaser,
Hosana Kitenge,
Ahmard Harvey all have great size at both the forward and center positions.
Â
The Chants were picked to finish seventh in the Sun Belt preseason coaches poll, but they were picked to finish second by
Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.
