Chants Regain Possession of First-Place in Sun Belt East with Win at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team improved to 21-5 overall and 11-3 in Sun Belt Conference play with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13) road victory at Georgia Southern on Saturday night to regain possession of first-place in the Sun Belt East Division.

Junior Kyla Manning led the Chants with 13 kills while senior Mariia Levanova recorded her second-career double-double as a Chanticleer with 10 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Brigitta Petrenko led the match with 39 assists and a career-high five service aces.

Through the first 32 (17-15) points of set one, neither team was able to break away from the other by more than two points. That all changed as the Chants were able to win the next two points to extend their lead to 19-15 with the help of freshman Ilse Sinnige's first of two service aces. The Chanticleers went on to the victory in the first set by the score of 25-20 as sophomore Anett Nemeth led the team with a set-high six kills.

The Chant blockers held the Eagles' attack to a .080 (9-of-25) hitting percentage and forced seven errors in the 25-20 set two win. Coastal never trailed in the second stanza as redshirt sophomore Christina Nance led the team with four kills and one block assist.

The Eagles were able to stay alive in the match with a set three victory by the score of 25-23 when they held the Chanticleers to a hitting percentage of .167 (10-of-30) with five errors. Georgia Southern, on the other hand, hit .267 (12-of-30) with four errors and were led by a pair of players with four kills apiece and a hitting percentage of .400 or better. Mya Wilson led the team in set three as she hit 4-of-8 (.800) with no errors while teammate Carly Turner hit 4-of-10 (.400), also with no errors.

Coastal Carolina broke the Georgia Southern momentum to win the fourth set by a 25-13 score and take the road conference win. Petrenko continued her successful season on the service line as she closed out the match with four consecutive service aces while Manning led the offense in the fourth set victory with five kills and no errors as she hit .500 (5-of-10).

CCU had nine-team blocks in the win led by Nance's four.

On Friday, South Alabama defeated Troy by the score of 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-22, 25-18) to allow Coastal Carolina to regain control of first-place in the Sun Belt East.

The Chanticleers will close out the regular-season at home with matches to determine first-place in the Sun Belt East Division against Troy and South Alabama next weekend. On Friday, Nov. 15, CCU will host Troy at 6:30 p.m ET and then they will play host to South Alabama on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m. ET.
