
Chanticleers In Action at Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers traveled to the University of South Carolina for the second time in three weeks on Friday for this weekend's Carolina Challenge.
The most notable finishes came in the high jump event as teammates Joya Blackwell and Erica Evans secured their spots in the top 10. The sophomore Blackwell finished in seventh-place in the competition as she reached a height of 1.57 meters on her sixth attempt of the day. The junior Evans came in three spots behind her teammate as the Atlanta, Georgia native competed in her first high jump event of the season reaching 1.52 meters on her third attempt of the day.
Katie Bond also had a solid day in the field as the freshman was able to earn a 12th place finish in the pole vault with a height of 2.80 meters.
Also in action was junior Alyssa LeClaire who also took home a top 20 finish as she ran a time of 5:13.23 in the mile.
In the 3000 meters, a trio of Chants were in action. Junior Geovanni Leone finished in the top 20 with a personal best time of 11:04.44. Fellow junior Lexi Carpenter came in 28th with a time 11:27.90 and freshman Alyssa Lynch finished 35thand a time of 12:07.26.
Evans also competed the 60-meter hurdles qualifier when she ran a time of 9.17, but was unable to qualify for the semifinals.
CCU will be back in action tomorrow for day two with events starting at 9 a.m.
