Syracuse, N.Y. – Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse senior
Haley Kyger led the Chanticleers offense with a hat-trick in the 18-5 loss to the No. 7 Syracuse Orange of the ACC at the Carrier Dome on Monday. The loss drops the Chanticleers to 1-1 on the season, while Syracuse improved to 3-1 overall.
Prior to CCU getting on the scoreboard first, the host team won the opening draw and went on the attack with Chanticleer goalie
Harley Barrett getting the first of four saves on the day.
Emily D'Orsaneo picked up the ground ball (3) to put Coastal on the offensive. Kyger scored her first goal (25:16) of the day to put CCU in front 1-0 off the dish from fellow classmate
Madeline Bromley.
The Orange then went on a nine-goal run to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Refusing to quit, Coastal's
Haley Alexander made it 9-2 off a run into the middle where she took a pass from sophomore
Avery Drouin and bounced it past the Orange's goalie with 9:28 remaining in the first half.
Syracuse closed out the first half scoring with four goals, the third at 6:18 kept the clock running, for a 13-2 lead.
The second half opened with the host team getting the first goal of the half with 27:30 on the clock.
At the 23:51 mark and time running out on a woman-up attempt,
Megan Busch assisted a
Jordan Harrell goal to make it 14-3.
After three-straight goals from Syracuse extended their lead, Kyger recorded her second goal of the contest at the 4:24 mark. She then closed out the scoring with 1:23 remaining on the clock off the pass from
Samantha Courtemanche to put the final tally at 18-5.
The Chanticleers will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when they host former Big South opponent Campbell inside Brooks Stadium. The opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
