No. 16 Chanticleers, No. 18 Tigers to Face Off on Wednesday Night

Conway, S.C. – No. 16 Coastal Carolina is back in the Palmetto State, but will remain on the road to take on the No. 18 Clemson Tigers on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. ET at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson, S.C.

  • The Chanticleers are 13-3-1 entering midweek action this week. Yes and 1. Coastal Carolina and No. 1 Oregon State played to a 4-4, 11-inning draw on March 10 at the Seattle Baseball Showcase. The game was called after 11-complete innings due to the three and a half hour time limit placed on each game. 
  • Not once, but two times the Chanticleers had a game called by the time limit last weekend at the inaugural Seattle Baseball Showcase event at T-Mobile Park, formerly Safeco Field. Coastal's first game of the weekend was called after eight innings with San Diego leading 8-5. Their final game of the event on Sunday was called after 11-complete innings with the score tied at 4-4 due to the three and a half hour time limit.
  • Wednesday's contest between Coastal Carolina and Clemson is the third-straight meeting between the two teams with both teams ranked in the top-25 nationally in all six national polls. This season, the Chants are No. 16 overall while the Tigers come in at No. 18.
  • Coastal has scored four runs or more in a single inning a total of 11 times this season, including a season-high six runs in the first inning in the 14-8 win over Wake Forest on March 6. The Chants are 8-1-1 this season in games which they post a "big inning" and posted two big innings of four runs or more in the win over Wake Forest on March 5.
  • Coastal is a perfect 10-0 this season when holding its opponent to five runs or less for the game. In fact, the Chants won six-straight games from Feb. 16 to Feb. 23 in which they held their foes to less than five runs.
  • The Chants have six guys ranked in the top 10 of the Sun Belt in RBIs this season. Kieton Rivers and Parker Chavers led the Sun Belt with 21 RBIs, while Kyle Skeels (19) and Zach Biermann (17) are fourth and sixth, respectively. Both Keaton Weisz and Scott McKeon are tied for ninth with 13 runs batted in.
  • Coastal's offense ranks in the top 10 nationally in seven different statistical categories - fourth in hits (187), fourth in runs (147), sixth in sacrifice flies (12), ninth in scoring (8.6 runs per game), ninth in doubles (37), ninth in stolen bases (36) and 10th in on-base percentage (.424).
  • A total of eight different pitchers have logged double-digit innings thus far this season on the mound for the Chants and pitching coach Drew Thomas. Starters Zach McCambley (19.1 IP) and Austin Kitchen (19.0 IP) lead the way with 19 innings pitched, while out of the bullpen Matt Eardensohn has a team-high eight appearances and 16.1 innings of work.
  • Coastal Carolina's pitching staff has struck out double-digit hitters in nine different games this season, including a season-high 13 Ks in back-to-back wins over Indiana (March 3) and Wake Forest (March 5).
  • The CCU offense has scored 10 runs or more nine times this season, including a stretch of four-straight games in wins over Campbell (11 runs), UNCW( 10) and in both games of a doubleheader with Michigan State (13 and 12). On the flip side, the Chants have not allowed 10 runs or more in a single game this season.
On Deck
  • The Chants will continue its 12-day road trip with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at ULM in Monroe, Louisiana this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 15-17. It is the conference series opener for both teams.
