CONWAY - Coastal Carolina softball will be on the road for the second time this weekend as they head to Statesboro, Georgia to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles for their first conference road test of the season.

Coastal Carolina

The Chanticleers are coming off last weekend where they won five games in five days at St. John Stadium, beating Georgia State and Bryant. Overall, CCU is 21-5 on the season and 3-0 in the conference as they have won seven straight games and sit in second place in the conference.

With the sweep of the Georgia State Panthers, it was the first conference sweep since the Chants won three straight against this week's opponent on April 7-8 of last season.

Two-time Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Kaitlin Beasley-Polko continues to have a wonderful season for the Chanticleers. The Leonardtown, Maryland product has won five games in a row and has run her scoreless innings streak to 21 straight. The sophomore is 12-2 in 17 appearances with a 1.28 that is good for second in the conference. Beasley-Polko is in the top five in five other pitching categories; second in wins and opposing batting average and third in innings pitched and strikeouts.

On Tuesday afternoon, sophomore Courtney Dean went 2-for-2 in the 7-0 win over Bryant to move her hitting streak to eight straight games. In those eight games, last year's first-team all-conference member has hit .450 (9-for-20), three home runs, a double, seven RBI, five walks, and five runs scored.

Overall, Dean has hit .348, nine homers, and 22 runs batted in. Her nine home runs are first in the conference and her 22 RBI is good for third. The sophomore outfielder also has had .797 slugging percentage which is good for third in the conference and 20 runs scored is sits just inside the top ten (9th).

Kassidy Smith also remains a key cog to the Chanticleer line up as the junior has reached base in 22 straight games. During the streak, the CCU leadoff hitter has been on base 48 percent of the time with 16 walks and ten hit by pitches.

Georgia Southern

On Wednesday evening, Georgia Southern lost a non-conference match-up against North Florida by the score of 4-0 as they fell to 13-11 overall and seventh in the conference.  Against the Osprey, starter Ashleigh Morton got the no decision as she went three innings, scattering three hits with no runs.

The freshman Morton is the team leader with six wins in 12 appearances as she has pitched 43.2 innings.

Freshman Shelby Wilson is currently leading the Eagles with a .433 batting average which is sixth in the Sun Belt. Wilson is also in the top five of five other conference batting categories; slugging percentage (2nd), OBP (6th), RBI (2nd), doubles (6th), and home runs (5th)
