AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's golf team shot a 10-over 586 (295-291) on the first day of the Valspar Augusta Invitational and will enter tomorrow's final round in sixth place.
CCU's Tiffany Arafi was the leader on the scoreboard for the Chants carding a 1-under 143 (75-68) in the first two rounds. While shooting a 3-over in the morning round, she rebounded to record a 4-under in the second round, playing her first nine holes in 33 shots.
Her round of 68 is one off her career-best 67 she shot during the fall at the Lady Paladin Invitational. The 4-under score is also tied for the 10th lowest round in program history.
Marie Lunackova and Jenjira Jinangkul both finished the day at 1-over 145. Marie had a 71 in the first round and followed that with a 74 in the afternoon's 18 holes to gather her score. Jinangkul shot 72-73 in picking up her score and both players finished the day tied for 19th.
Stephanie Henning had a solid two rounds for CCU. She finished the day tied for 50th with her 9-over 153 (77-76) and Frantiska Lunackova shot a 12-over 156 (80-76) to finish the day tied for 61st.
Alexandra Naumovski and Victoria Parker also played in the invite and both finished the day shooting 13-over 157. Naumovski picked up her score shooting an 81-76 and Parker shot 82-75. Both players are tied at 63rd.
Texas Tech, the 41st-ranked team in the country, leads the event after blistering the course for a 14-under 562. Purdue is ranked 33rd and they are in second after the first day of action after carding an 8-under 568.
Rounding out the top five just in front of the Chants are Charlotte in third place after a solid 4-under 572. Host Augusta and Memphis are tied at even-par 576.
The third and final round is scheduled for tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. tee time. Keep up with the action at goccusports.com.
