Coastal Carolina Set to Host the Tribe

Chanticleer Women’s Lacrosse Continue Homestand

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team is set to host the College of William & Mary on Sunday, March 24 in the friendly confines of Brooks Stadium in Conway with the opening draw scheduled for noon. Coastal enters the contest 4-2 on the season while W&M is 5-3.
 
The Tribe leads the overall series 1-0 with William & Mary picking up a 12-8 victory in the lone contest in Williamsburg, Va. in 2014.
 
Last time out for the Chanticleers, junior Samantha Courtemanche picked up six points with four goals and two assists, with the final tally putting Coastal in front 15-14 over UCONN with 59 seconds remaining in the game.  Haley Alexander picked up six points with five goals with the fourth goal giving Alexander 134 career goals to break the CCU all-time career goals record held by former teammate Keri White (133). Defensively, senior Harley Barrett picked up 13 saves despite allowing 14 goals while senior Haley Kyger caused four turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.
 
For the season, the Chants are led by six players with double-digit points. Alexander leads the way with 18 goals and seven assists for 25 points followed by Courtemanche who has 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists. Madeline Bromley (11 goals and nine assists) has recorded 20 points, Kyger (11 goals and three assists) has 14 points, Megan Busch with 11 points on seven goals and four assists, and Jordan Harrell with six goals and four assists for 10 points close out the points leaders.
 
Barrett with 52 saves on the season anchors the defense while Emily D'Orsaneo has scooped 14 ground balls and caused nine turnovers. Megan Kilpatrick has contributed with nine caused turnovers and causing five turnovers.
 
W&M picked up a 17-13 victory over in-state rival Virginia Commonwealth in its last outing. Meredith Hughes paced the Tribe's offense with five goals for five points and Belle Martire registered a hat trick and one assist for four points. On the defensive side, Elsa Rall tallied 13 saves while giving up 13 goals.
 
The William & Mary offense has four double-digit point scorers with Martire leading the way with 23 goals and two assists for 25 points. Hughes follows with 20 points on 17 goals and three assists while Maddie Torgerson (nine goals and five assists) and Lauren Russell (11 goals) have 14 and 11 points apiece respectively. The Tribe's defense is led by Rall in goal with 72 saves and a 48.0 save percentage and Anne McElgunn with 13 caused turnovers and ground balls.
