Brown, Dalla-Bona Lead Four Coastal All-Sun Belt Winners

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Coastal Carolina's Jennifer Brown was named the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Somer Dalla-Bona was named the Sun Belt Player to Watch, and four Chanticleers total were voted All-Sun Belt as the conference announced the results of its women's tennis postseason award voting Wednesday.
Dalla-Bona was additionally an All-Sun Belt First Team selection in singles, while Brown and Viktorija Demcenkova were voted to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in singles. The duo of Brown and Jessie Mount took first-team All-Sun Belt honors.
Brown, a graduate transfer from Mississippi State, made an immediate impact in her first season at Coastal, finishing 10-4 overall in singles. Brown primarily played the No. 2 singles position, where her 8-1 overall record led all Sun Belt student-athletes on that court. Her 4-1 conference record at No. 2 singles was tied for second best in the Sun Belt. In doubles, Brown closed the regular season with a 13-4 overall record, winning 10 of her 14 No. 1 matches and all three of her No. 2 appearances.
Dalla-Bona led Coastal with a 14-2 overall singles record this season and her .875 winning percentage was tied for third among all Sun Belt student-athletes at all positions. Only a sophomore, Dalla-Bona was one of four Sun Belt student-athletes to finish the regular season unbeaten in conference singles matches, but was the only one to reach double-digit wins as her 10-0 record led the conference.
Demcenkova, a senior transfer from Eastern Kentucky, played the entire season at No. 1 singles. She finished 7-6 overall at the position, ranking fifth in the Sun Belt in terms of winning percentage. Additionally, her .500 winning percentage in conference matches was sixth best in the conference as she finished 3-3 against Sun Belt opponents at the top position.
Brown and Mount played 12 doubles matches together this season, finishing 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The duo's eight total wins is tied for Coastal's team high, while their .750 winning percentage in conference matches tied for second best among all Sun Belt pairs.
Coastal finished third in the Sun Belt this season with a 14-8, 7-3 SBC record and plays in the first match of the 2019 Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship Thursday against No. 6 Georgia State (10-12, 5-5 SBC) in Peachtree City, Ga. The Chants swept the Panthers, 4-0, less than two weeks ago in a match played at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
