Coastal Falls to Georgia State in Sun Belt Quarterfinals

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team faced an early exit from the 2019 Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship Thursday morning as the No. 3 Chanticleers suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 6 Georgia State.
The loss ends Coastal's season at 14-10. Georgia State advances to Friday's semifinal round to play the winner of No. 2 South Alabama versus No. 7 Troy.
Coastal, which had won five of its last six matches heading into the Sun Belt tournament, took the day's opening point in doubles.
The doubles point was initially split as Coastal and GSU claimed matching 6-3 victories on the third and first courts, respectively. Alicja Zduniak and Alexa Tiefel won the No. 3 match for Coastal.
The point was decided at No. 2, where Viktorija Demcenkova and Jessie Mount held on to win an extended match, 7-5, and give Coastal its lone point of the day.
GSU responded to the deficit by winning the opening set on all six singles courts.
The Panthers ultimately took the four singles points needed, winning on courts three, four, five and six in straight sets.
The No. 1 singles match between Demcenkova and Eva Chivu went unfinished in the third set, as did the No. 2 singles match with GSU's Daniela Ramirez leading Jennifer Brown, 6-0, 5-6.
