CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will close out the regular season on the road Sunday, April 28, as it will travel to Elon, N.C. to take on Colonial Athletic Association opponent Elon.
The Chanticleers will look to improve on their 12-4 record before entering into the ASUN Championship as the third seed, while the Phoenix seeks to better their 5-11 mark. The last meeting between the two schools, Elon picked up a 14-6 win over Coastal in Conway on March 18 of last season. The Phoenix hold a 5-0 all-time advantage over the Chants.
CCU's last time out, the Chants defeated Detroit Mercy by an 8-3 score on a hard rainy day. Senior attacker
Haley Alexander led the offensive attack scoring four goals while senior goalkeeper
Harley Barrett made seven stops between the pipes.
For the season, Alexander has tallied 69 points on 51 goals and 18 assists and 45 draw controls, tying the school record and season highs for goals and points to lead the offense. Junior
Samantha Courtemanche is second on the team with 38 goals and 21 assists while senior
Madeline Bromley is third with 32 goals and 23 assists for an offense that is averaging 14.38 goals per game.
Barrett's 132 saves paces the defense while the defense has forced 255 turnovers led by junior midfielder
Megan Kilpatrick with 23 caused turnovers and junior defender
Emily D'Orsaneo with 17 caused turnovers and is allowing 8.81 goals per game.
The last time out for Elon, the Phoenix pulled out a 12-9 victory over the Tribe of William & Mary. Kaley Thompson led the offensive attack scoring four goals and assisting on another for five points on the day. Quinn Daly, Mae McGlynn, Gillian Curran, and Shannon Horan each tallied two goals each.
Defensively, Elon was paced by Paulina DiFatta with 12 saves and two ground balls. Erin Morsheimer caused a turnover and scooped four ground balls for a defense that forced 11 turnovers.
On the season, McGlynn (36 goals and three assists) and Thompson (28 goals and seven assists) highlight an offense that is scoring 8.88 goals per game.
In 15 games, DiFatta has made 139 saves and gathered 28 ground balls for a defense that is giving up 12.25 goals per game.
