Chanticleers Fall 15-13 on the Road

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse wrapped up the regular season on Sunday

Elon, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team fell 15-13 to CAA opponent Elon on Sunday afternoon in Elon, N.C. The loss dropped the Chanticleers' overall record to 12-5 on the season while the Phoenix improved to 6-11 with the win.
 
CCU's Madeline Bromley (four goals and one assist) opened the scoring with a free-position goal with 28:49 in the opening stanza to give the Chants' an early 1-0 lead.
 
Elon evened the match at 1-1 when Mae McGlynn scored the first of her four goals on the day with 1:17 expiring to kick-start a four-goal run. Kaley Thompson (three goals) put the Phoenix up 2-1 followed by McGlynn's second and third goals for a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Chants' Lauren Cremen cut the Elon lead in half at 4-2 when the freshman found the back of the net off a Samantha Courtemanche (one goal and four assists) assist with 21:28 until the intermission.
 
Elon's Thompson pushed the lead back to three (the largest lead in the match from either team) at 5-2 with 20:41 remaining until the half.
 
Coastal would fire off three goals from Bromley (19:31, 18:52) and Lyla Robinson (5:32) over the next several minutes to even the match up at 5-5.
 
The Phoenix closed out the first period with a 6-5 advantage off the Gillian Curran goal off the assist from Peighton Stone with 1:18 left until the break.
 
Robinson (28:15) and Courtemanche (26:13) would sandwich an Elon goal to even the match up at 7-7 to open the second period of action.
 
Quinn Daly (23:34) and Summer Larese (21:50) would put the host team up 9-7 before CCU ran off four-straight goals led by freshmen Carlie Doughty (19:04) and Hannah Close (17:50, 15:37) to push the Chanticleers out to an 11-9 advantage.
 
Elon closed the game with six of the final eight goals to make the final margin of 15-13.
 
The Chants defense was led by Harley Barrett with nine saves, while Hannah Krin caused two turnovers.
 
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Thursday, May 2, in the ASUN Lacrosse Championship as the Chants will host the second seed Liberty Flames. The opening draw is scheduled for 4:03 p.m. ET.
