Sun Belt Championship T/F Results Day 1
JONESBORO, ARK. - Friday kicked off the 2019 Sun Belt Track and Field Championships on the campus of Arkansas State University and after day one of the competition, the Chanticleer men are in first place with 21 team points while the women are in eighth place with two team points.
Men's Highlights
In the 10,000 meters, the Wildschutt brothers, Nadeel and Adriaan finished first and second overall. Both South African natives would have broken the school record that was set in 2005 by Terah Kipchris (29:38.62).
Sophomore
Nadeel Wildschutt added 10 team points as he set the record on Friday as he finished first with a time of 28.56.41. Sophomore
Adriaan Wildschutt added eight team points as he finished in second behind his brother with a time of 28:57.10.
Two Coastal Carolina athletes, junior
Connor Langdon and freshman
Zahir Scott, are competing in the decathlon for Chanticleer men.
At the end of the first day, five events were completed and Langdon is in fourth place with 3610 points as he posted two top-two finishes on the day. In the high jump, the Manorville, N.Y., native picked up a first-place finish as he reached a height of 2.07 meters. In the long jump, Langdon finished second with a season-best leap of 6.77 meters.
Scott added a top-two finish in the decathlon on Friday in the 400 meters as he ran a 51.36.
Graduate student
Tre Stanley finished first in the first heat and sixth overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 53.88 and moves on to Sunday's finals
In the hammer throw, senior
Kieran Moore finished first in flight one and sixth overall with a throw of 54.72 meters.
Three Coastal sprinters competed in the day's 200-meter preliminary as only the top eight runners would move on to Sunday's finals. In heat two, redshirt senior
Kahlim Denmark qualified for the finals as he finished with a time of 21.52 with a second-place finish.
Sophomore
Ty Floyd and junior
Devin Pringle finished with times of 22.23 and 21.83 in their respective heats but were unable to qualify for the final round.
The 1500-meter run featured junior
Andrew Southard and sophomore
Michael Pieterse for the Chanticleers. Southard finished 15th overall with a time of 4:02.38 while Pieterse finished in 18th place with a personal best time of 4:06.06.
Women's Highlights
Junior
Hesmari Coetzee finished first overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.69 and moves on to Sunday's final round.
In the hammer throw, senior
Sammy Jo Layko added a seventh-place finish for the Chanticleers with a distance of 52.28 meters.
Junior
Erica Evans was CCU's lone competitor in the heptathlon. Evans was ninth overall after day one of the competition with 2464 points. The Atlanta, Ga., native's highlight on day one happened as she matched her season-best in the high jump of 1.44 meters and had a season-best in the shot put of 9.80 meters.
At the end of day one, the Chanticleer men are in first place with 21 points. The women are in eighth place and have two team points.
