Chants Chatter
- This week's Sun Belt series versus the Appalachian State Mountaineers will mark the final three games of the regular season for the Chanticleers before hosting the 2019 Sun Belt Baseball Championship next week on May 21-26 at Springs Brooks Stadium.
- The Chants enter the final conference series of the year at 13-12 overall in conference play. Coastal needs to win two of the three games versus Appalachian State to help secure a top-six seed in next week's 2019 Sun Belt Baseball Championship from May 21-26.
- Coastal Carolina is just three games behind the East Division-leading Georgia Southern Eagles in the wins column entering play this weekend. However, CCU lost the series to the Eagles and thus would have to sweep Appalachian State and have Georgia State sweep Georgia Southern this weekend to win the East.
- Four times this season, a Chant player has blasted two home runs in a single game. Outfielder Kieton Rivers has done it twice this season, as hit two home runs in the win at home over UNCW (March 27) and again in the home win over Georgia Southern (April 20). Catcher Kyle Skeels hit two home runs in the first game of the twin tilt at South Alabama (April 6), while senior infielder Mike Koenig blasted two home runs in the Chants' 8-6 win at UTA (May 10).
- Entering the final week of regular-season play, the Chants have five players that lead the Sun Belt Conference in a statistical category. Junior lead-off hitter Cory Wood leads the Sun Belt in walks (46), while designated hitter Jake Wright leads the league in on-base percentage (.508) this season. Both Parker Chavers and Scott McKeon are tied for the league lead with four triples on the year, while senior pitcher Matt Eardensohn leads the Sun Belt in ERA (2.84).
- The magic number for CCU this season is six - as in six runs. Coastal is 26-6 overall on the year when scoring six runs or more in a game and just 2-16-1 when scoring less than six runs. When holding its opponents to six runs or less, the Chants are 18-4-1, yet are only 10-18 when allowing six runs or more.
- Coastal is 7-1 all-time versus the Mountaineers on the diamond, including winning each of the first seven meetings between the two teams.
- Coastal has had eight different pitchers make a start on the mound for them this season in Austin Kitchen (11), Anthony Veneziano (10), Zach McCambley (9), Garrett McDaniels (8), Nick Parker (6), Scott Kobos (3), Matt Eardensohn (3) and Bobby Holmes (1).
- The Chants rank in the top-two overall in the Sun Belt in 10 different statistical categories this season. CCU leads the league in batting avg. (.298), hits (540), home runs (64), on-base percentage (.404), runs scored (387), scoring average (7.6), slugging percentage (.482) and triples (18), and ranks second in stolen bases (72) and strikeouts per nine innings (8.9).
