Biography

A member of the 2016 National Championship team … A 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American … Tabbed the 2015 Big South Freshman of the Year … Earned a spot on the 2015 All-Big South second team as a freshman … Posted an overall record of 17-7 with an ERA of 3.82 … Also recorded 11 saves … His 11 career saves is tied for ninth all-time … Held opponents to a .257 batting average over his career, which ranks 23rd all-time … Recorded a career average of 8.14 strikeouts per nine innings, which ranks in the top-25 in Coastal’s career record books … His 17 career wins also ranks in the top-25 in CCU history … His 85 career appearances on the mound for Coastal Carolina is the 11th-most in school history … Totaled 195.2 innings pitched, which again ranks in the top-25 in CCU history … Honored at the 2016 NCAA College World Series for having the highest GPA among the eight participating teams … A three-time member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List (2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19) … Also a two-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll (2014-15 and 2015-16).

2019 (Redshirt Senior): Pitched in seven games after missing all of the 2018 season from Tommy John surgery … Went 1-1 on the season … Pitched 7.0 innings, striking out 10 batters … Returned to the mound for the first time in over a year and threw one scoreless inning in the win over Campbell (Feb. 17) on opening weekend … Fanned one in 1.0-scoreless inning in the game two win over Michigan State (Feb. 22) … Got the start on the road at the College of Charleston (Feb. 27), suffering the loss after 1.1-innings of work … Threw 2.0 innings in the win over Wake Forest (March 6), striking out a season-high four batters … Pitched 1.0-scoreless inning in the road win at ULM (March 15) in the Sun Belt Conference opener … A nominee for the 2019 SENIOR Class Award … Also named to the 2018-19 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List.

2018 (Redshirt Junior): Redshirted … Had to sit out the season to recover from Tommy John surgery in May 2017 … 2017-18 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List honoree … Earned Dean’s List recognition in the fall of 2017.

2017 (Junior): Prior to the 2017 season, was named to the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year watch list and was tabbed the sixth-best pro prospect in the Sun Belt for the 2017 draft by D1Baseball ... However, he was injured and had to have Tommy John surgery in May 2017 ... Still ranked second on the squad in appearances (23) and was 5-3 overall with three saves and a 2.51 ERA ... Over his last five appearances before the injury, he was 3-0 with a save and an 0.81 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched with one walk and 10 strikeouts ... During that span, he figured in all three CCU wins in a week (wins at Citadel and versus Troy (game two) while getting a save in the Troy finale) ... Also got the win versus UNC Wilmington (May 9), working 2.1 innings in middle relief ... Overall, only walked three and allowed just four earned runs over his last nine appearances (16.1 innings) with nine strikeouts prior to his injury ... Credited with the win in the South Alabama opener ... Pitched 2.2-scoreless innings, allowing one hit with three walks and three strikeouts as CCU won 4-3 in the 10th inning ... Earned his second save of the season in game one versus Georgia Southern, throwing a 1-2-3 ninth ... Perhaps his best outing of the season was in the UL Monroe opener ... While he did not figure in the decision, he pitched 3.1-scoreless innings (final out of the seventh and pitching the eighth, ninth and 10th innings) of a 5-5 ballgame ... Allowed two hits, walked none and struck out three ... Named to the 2016-17 Sun Belt Commissioner's List for posting at least a 3.5 GPA for the academic year ... Also named to the Dean's List in the fall of 2016 and spring 2017.

2016 (Sophomore): Was honored at the College World Series for having the highest GPA among the eight-team participants during the opening ceremonies ... Was 7-2 with four saves while posting a 4.20 ERA in 28 outings, making six starts ... Tallied 74 strikeouts in 83.2 innings ... Pitched in nine of CCU's 14 NCAA postseason games (18.2 innings) ... Was 3-0 with two saves with a team-best 1.93 ERA and a .200 opponent batting average ... In the postseason (conference tourney through CWS final), he inherited 18 runners and allowed just two to score ... Moved into the starting rotation for weekends six through 12 and CCU was 5-1 in his six starts ... However, moved back to the bullpen for CCU's last 28 games and CCU went 24-4 ... In fact, over his 15 appearances during that 28-game span, Holmes was 3-1 with three saves and a 1.85 ERA with .203 opponent batting average ... Lone loss came after a CCU error that would have been the final out in the eighth at Charleston Southern and was saddled with three unearned runs in the 6-4 loss ... Inherited 26 runners in 2016 and only three scored ... Had streak of 10-consecutive outings without allowing an inherited runner to score ... Dominated Saint Mary's to get the save in the NCAA Regional opener ... Allowed one hit in 2.1 innings with five of his seven outs coming by strikeout ... Entered with a runner on second and two outs with CCU leading 5-2 ... Got a ground out to end the seventh ... Struck out three in the eighth while allowing his lone hit ... Worked a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts and a ground out ... Also pitched 2.1 innings versus NC State in the deciding game and would have been saddled with the loss despite the two runs he allowed were both unearned ... However, CCU rallied with four runs in the ninth to advance to the Super Regional ... At the Super Regional, he pitched 1.2 innings and got the win in both games at LSU ... In game one, down 4-2 with two runners on, he got a ground out, allowed a walk and got a foul out to strand runners on second and third ... Overall, allowed two hits and three walks but just one run as Coastal pulled away for an 11-8 win ... In game two, he worked the final 2.1 innings ... Entered with CCU leading 3-2 and two runners on ... Struck out the first batter he faced and walked the second to load the bases before getting a ground out to end the inning ... In the ninth, CCU made two errors that led to an unearned run to tie the game at 3-3 ... Holmes limited the damage as LSU had the bases loaded and one out by recording a strikeout and a fly out to set-up CCU's walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth ... At the College World Series, he pitched in five of the eight games, going 1-0 with a save and a 2.53 ERA in 10.2 innings ... Picked up the save in the first elimination game with Texas Tech, going the final 2.1 innings and striking out two while allowing one hit and one walk ... In the next elimination game, the rematch versus TCU, he worked 2.2 innings, allowing one run ... Earned the win in CCU's fourth elimination game, the second game versus Arizona (June 28) ... Pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) after CCU had scored three in the top of the eighth ... Worked a 1-2-3 ninth to get the win in the 5-4 victory ... Gave CCU five pitches two days later in the deciding game versus Arizona ... Leading 4-2 and entering with bases loaded and two outs, Holmes got the strikeout to bridge the gap between Andrew Beckwith and Alex Cunningham ... Earned the save versus Duke, striking out two in 2.2-scoreless innings ... Credited with the win in Saturday's win over Illinois ... Struck out a season-high seven in 3.1 innings, while allowing four hits, one run and four walks ... Got his first career win as a starter (fifth career start) as he pitched a then career-high 7.0 innings in the Friday win over Stetson ... Scattered nine hits but only allowed two runs with a walk and five punch outs ... Got the win in game two versus Gardner-Webb, going 5.1 innings and striking out one while allowing seven hits, four runs and four walks ... Pitched well, but did not factor in the decision in 6-5 victory over Campbell, leaving with game tied 5-5 in the top of the ninth ... Entered game in the third with CCU trailing 4-1 and pitched six-plus innings, scattering five hits and allowed one run with zero walks and five strikeouts ... At Big South Championship, pitched twice and got a save ... In the semifinal win over Longwood, worked the final 3.2 innings to get his second save of the season ... Retired 11 of the 12 batters he faced, allowing one hit (a one-out double in the ninth) ... Was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll ...  Also named to the Dean's List in the fall of 2015 and spring 2016.

2015 (Freshman): Named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper ... Also named the 2015 Big South Freshman of the Year and tabbed second-team All-Big South as a relief pitcher ... Posted a 4-1 record in 27 appearances with four saves and a 2.90 ERA ... Ranked seventh in the Big South (180th NCAA) in ERA (2.90) and appearances (27), while ranking fifth (125th NCAA) in WHIP (1.13) ... Also ranked seventh in the league in saves (4) and eighth in opponent batting average (.228) ... In league games only, ranked fourth in opponent batting average (.208), fifth in appearances (11), sixth in ERA (2.16) and seventh in saves (2) ... Was Coastal's top relief pitcher before being forced into the starting rotation for the final two weeks of the regular season and the postseason ... In 23 relief appearances, posted a 1.20 ERA while going 4-0 with four saves, including one versus Texas Southern in the NCAA College Station Regional before serving as a starter the next day versus sixth-ranked Texas A&M ... Overall, threw 45.0 innings as a relief pitcher with 45 strikeouts while allowing 29 hits and six earned runs (11 total) with 11 walks ... As a starter, was 0-1 with a 7.41 ERA while recording just 10 strikeouts in 17.0 innings with five walks, 25 hits and 14 earned runs (16 total) ... His best performance came at Florida State as he was tabbed Big South Pitcher of the Week for his effort ... Earned the win versus the then-No. 7 Seminoles as he pitched 6.0-scoreless and hitless innings ... Earned his first save as he pitched 4.1 innings versus Clemson and allowed two hits and one run with no walks and a season-high six strikeouts ... After Holmes earned the save versus Clemson, he earned the win in his next outing at UNC Asheville ... Between the Clemson and UNCA games, Holmes retired 12 of his final 13 batters faced versus the Tigers (lone exception being a Clemson batter reaching on an error) and all 10 batters he faced versus the Bulldogs ... Those two outings were part of a 17-game span (March 2-April 28) that he posted a 3-0 record with three saves and a 0.84 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and just three walks ... Earned President's List (4.0 GPA) honors for the fall 2014 ... Also named to the Dean's List in the spring 2015 ... Was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

High School: Tabbed second-team Region 8-AAA, going 6-3 with six complete games and a 1.43 ERA as a senior ... Three-time selection to the Athens-Banner Herald All-Northeast Georgia team, earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and senior, and first team recognition as a junior ... Named first-team Region 8-AAA his junior season, as he posted 79 strikeouts and went 6-3 with a 1.45 ERA ... Named to the all-tournament team in 2013 and 2014 at the Perfect Game East Cobb Invitational ... Also named All-Region 8-AAA as a sophomore.
