Taylor Records a Top-20 Finish at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional

Coastal Carolina men’s golf junior Zack Taylor placed in a tie for 20th overall at the championship event
Murrells Inlet, S.C. – Coastal Carolina junior Zack Taylor shot a 71, -1 under par, over the final round of play on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 20th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 216, even par, at the 2019 NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional held at the TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
Selected to play in the NCAA Regional event, the first-year Chant posted rounds of 68, 77 and 71, to finish with his 54-hole score of 216, even par. His 20th-place finish was the best among the five individuals at the tournament.
His 216 was just 15 strokes back of the regional champion in Michael Feagles of Illinois who posted a tournament-low 54-hole score of 201, -15 under par.
"I hate to see Zack's year end. What an incredible year for him. Not only did he have one of the best years in school history, but he helped lead us to the next level as a team and program," stated head coach Jim Garren. "As far as this week goes, he was just a little off with his ball striking. His short game saved him the first day, but he had just a few too many errant shots. Top 20 is a respectable finish at an NCAA Regional but when a course is playing this easy, you've got to be on point with every part of your game to win. He battled hard all week, but just didn't have his best stuff."
After shooting a second round 77, +5, on Tuesday, Taylor battled back to open up the third round of play with a par and birdie to go -1 under after the first two holes of play.
Following back-to-back bogeys, the junior birdied the par-5 No. 6 and parred the next two holes before bogeying hole No. 9 to finish the front nine with a 37, +1.
The Pittsburgh, Pa. native had a strong back nine, as he carded five pars and two birdies over the first seven holes on the back to move back to -1 under par through 16 holes of play.
A bogey on the par-3 No. 17 put him back to even par before he ended the round with his fifth birdie of the day on hole No. 18 to end the day with his round of 71, -1 under par.
For the tournament, Taylor was tied for second overall with a par-5 scoring average of 4.25, -9. He was also just one of 16 golfers to record an eagle over the three days of play and totaled 12 birdies and 29 pars on the week.
"Five top-fives and eight top-20 finishes is impressive considering how difficult our schedule was. Zack's a big-time talent that has gone from a walk-on to the No. 66th ranked amateur in the world this season," continued Garren. "I know he can't wait to start next year as a senior leader of this team."
