Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina senior first baseman Zach Biermann was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District first team in baseball, CoSIDA announced on Thursday. He was named to the NCAA Division I District 4 first team.
 
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District baseball team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
 
Biermann, a sociology major, has started and played in all 48 games for the Chants this season at first base. The second-year Chant enters play this weekend at UTA leading both the team and the Sun Belt with 51 RBIs on the season. He also ranks second in the league in runs batter in per game (1.06), fourth in sacrifice flies (6) and seventh in home runs with (10). His 10 home runs are tied for second on the team, while he is hitting .286 with a total of 56 base hits and 37 runs scored on the season.
 
The power-hitting lefty has totaled 14 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games on the year, a team-high, and has driven in at least one RBI in 31 of his 48 games this season, including driving in two runs or more in 14 games. He posted a career-high five RBIs in the win at Georgia State (April 26), in which he blasted a grand slam, and drove in three RBIs three times - versus Oregon State (March 10), against Georgia Southern (April 20) and versus Louisiana (May 5).
 
He was named to the 2019 Collegiate Baseball preseason All-America third team and entered the season ranked as the No. 4 Top Prospect in the Sun Belt for 2019 MLB Draft by D1Baseball.
 
Last season, his first at Coastal, he was tabbed a 2018 ABCA All-America third team selection and earned a spot on the 2018 ABCA All-Atlantic Region first team. He was also named to the 2018 NCAA Conway Regional All-Tournament team, the 2018 Sun Belt Championship All-Tournament team and tabbed the 2018 Sun Belt Tournament Most Outstanding Player after earning 2018 All-Sun Belt first team accolades.
 
A member of the 2017-18 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List,  he was most recently named the Presidential Student-Athlete of the Year at the 2018-19 SAAC Student-Athlete Excellence Awards.
