Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina baseball had a trio of Chanticleers in
Kieton Rivers,
Jake Wright and
Parker Chavers named to the 2019 ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic All-Region teams, the association announced this week. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.
Both Rivers and Wright were named to the Atlantic All-Region first team, while Chavers earned a spot on the second team.
Kieton Rivers
Rivers had a career year in 2019, as the Virginia native hit .321 with a total of 75 hits on the season which both ranked third on the team overall. He also recorded 13 home runs, three triples and 16 doubles, while driving in 65 RBIs and scoring 61 runs on the year. Rivers posted a .581 slugging percentage and a .420 on-base percentage while swiping 10 stolen bases on the season.
The fourth-year Chant ranked second in the Sun Belt in RBIs (65), second in runs scored (61), fourth in total bases (136), seventh in home runs (13), seventh in slugging percentage (.581) and 10th in base hits with 75.
Rivers hit two home runs in the same game four times on the season, hitting multiple home runs in the win at home over UNCW (March 27) and again in the home win over Georgia Southern (April 20) in the regular season. He then hit two home runs in the win over ULM (May 25) and a fourth time in the championship game of the Sun Belt Tournament versus Georgia Southern (May 26).
A Midseason Perfect Game/Rawlings second-team All-American, Rivers was also named to the 2019 All-Sun Belt second team. He was named the 2019 Sun Belt Tournament Most Outstanding Player and earned a spot on the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team as he finished the tournament hitting .300 (10-for-30) with four home runs, two doubles, 14 RBIs, 10 runs scored, a .767 slugging percentage and a .382 on-base percentage.
Jake Wright
Tabbed the 2019 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, Wright was also named to the All-Sun Belt second team and earned a spot on both the Sun Belt All-Tournament and the 2019 NCAA Atlanta Regional All-Tournament teams.
The first-year Chant led the team and was second in the Sun Belt in hitting at .355 overall on the season. He also led the Sun Belt in on-base percentage at .516 on the year and was second in the league in walks with 45. Wright was also fifth in the conference in slugging percentage (.601) and in hit-by-pitch (16), while also ranking seventh in runs scored (57).
In 2019, Wright hit a team-best .355 with 11 home runs, two triples, eight doubles, 49 RBIs and 57 runs scored. He walked 45 times, compared to just 37 strikeouts, posted a .601 slugging percentage and a .516 on-base percentage for the season. He finished the season with 20 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games.
Wright was selected as the 964th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Parker Chavers
A 2019 All-Sun Belt first team selection and a member of the 2019 Sun Belt All-Tournament team, Chavers hit .316 with 15 home runs, four triples, nine doubles, 54 RBIs and 54 runs scored last season. He also posted a team-high .612 slugging percentage, an on-base percentage of .435 and swiped 10 stolen bases on the year.
The second-year Chant ranked second in the Sun Belt in triples (4), third in slugging percentage (.612), fourth in home runs (15), sixth in total bases (128), fifth in walks (39), seventh in RBIs (54) and 10th in runs scored (54).
Chavers totaled 16 multi-hit games and was second on the team with 18 multi-RBI games, which included a career-high five-hit game twice and a career-high five RBIs versus Michigan State (Feb. 22).
