CONWAY - On Wednesday, June 5, sophomores
Nadeel Wildschutt and
Adriaan Wildschutt will represent Coastal Carolina University at the 2019 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas in the 10,000-meter distance race.
The Wildschutt brothers are scheduled to race at 9:08 p.m. ET on Wednesday night on ESPN2 as they become the 31st and 32nd individuals/team from the Chanticleers track and field squad to ever to compete at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.Â
Adriaan, the younger of the two Wildschutt brothers set the 10K school record on May 23 during the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary at the University of North Florida as he placed second behind Gilbert Kigen (28:51.11) of the University of Alabama when he broke the Chanticleer school record with a time of 28:53.69.Â
Nadeel took home fourth-place at the east preliminary as he finished with a personal best time of 28:55.62.
Two weeks earlier at the 2019 Sun Belt Championships, Nadeel broke the school record for the first time this season, almost 90 seconds better than Terah Kipchris' time of 29:38.62 set in 2005 when he crossed the finish line at 28:56.41.
The last time CCU had a representative in the NCAA Track and Field Championship field was
Annie Bothma in 2017. That season, Bothma finished in 19th-place in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 34:13.77, to earn herself honorable mention All-American honors.
What To Look For:
The top nine qualifiers from the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary finished with a faster time than the NCAA West Preliminary winner senior Rory Linkletter (29:59.11) of Brigham Young University.
BYU has six runners in the 2019 field.
All 12 qualifiers from the east prelim set personal bests times in 2019, and six of those personal best times were recorded at the east preliminary last Thursday in Jacksonville, Fla.
Nine qualifiers from the west prelim set personal bests times in 2019, and seven of those personal best times were recorded at the west preliminary last Thursday in Sacramento, Calif.
