NEW ORLEANS, La. – Chanticleer junior Latiana Acker won the Sun Belt Elite Award and the Chants placed four on the postseason All-Sun Belt teams, the league announced on Saturday. Acker earned first-team honors, Callie Wilson and Emelia Thurston earned second-team honors, and Maya Studney picked up third-team honors.
Acker won the 400m at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championship with a personal-best time of 54.26, ranking third in school history. She was also named the Sun Belt Women's Indoor Track & Field Elite Award Winner. The SBC Elite Award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the Sun Belt Conference Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The SBC Elite award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating on the final day for each of the Sun Belt Conference's championships
Wilson set a new school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.98m, finishing second in the conference. Thurston finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.95m to also earn second-team honors.
Studney finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.44m, ranking third in school history.
Coastal finished third overall in the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championship.
