Fowler Named to 2019 Pan Am and IAAF World Championships Track and Field Coaching Staff

Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Sandy Fowler has been named to the track and field staff of the 2019 Lima XVIII Pan American Games and the 2019 IAAF World Championships.
The former USA national champion and Team USA coach was one of five assistant coaches named to the staff by head coach La Tanya Sheffield, who also is the head coach at Long Beach State.
Fowler will be in charge of the throwers for both the Pan Am and IAAF World Championship Games. This year's Pan Am Games will be held July 26 – August 11 in Lima, Peru and the World Championships will be held Sept. 28 – Oct. 6 in Doha, Qatar.
A nine-time All-American and USA national champion, Fowler has led the Chanticleers track and field program as well as the cross country program for two years.
The 2019 Pan Am and IAAF World Championship Games are not Fowler's first experience in international coaching. She represented Team USA as an assistant coach at the 2014 Pan Am Sports Festival in Mexico City, Mexico, as well as the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia. She served as Team USA head coach at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland.
"It is an honor to be selected as a national team coach for USA Track and Field for both the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru and World Championships in Doha, Qatar," Fowler said. "I feel this a special time to be a part of the best track and field team in the world. As it is a time for athletes to be a part of the tradition of winning medals as we move toward the World Championships (Doha) and Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. I look forward to this opportunity to assist the athletes in winning medals for Team USA as it is a huge honor."
