CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team dropped its regular-season opener to North Florida 2-0 at the CCU Soccer Stadium in Conway, Thursday evening. With the loss, the Chants fall to 0-1 to open the season while UNF begins the year at 1-0 with the win.
The 2019 home opener saw seven Chant freshmen make their college debuts along with junior transfer
Callie Hawkins, and sophomore defender
Caeden Price.
Lauren Denning,
Megan Brouse,
Tori Carnevale,
Aminah Johnson,
Santana Pressley,
Kamryn Nobles, and
Gabbi Leach all saw action with Denning and Brouse each firing a shot.
The Chants were outshot 14-6 with
Hannah Miller,
Baylee Price,
Loranna Austin, and
Mackenzie Gibbs accounting for the other opportunities for the home team.
The Ospreys opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Kendra Hoffman scored the eventual game-winner by firing a shot by the diving Coastal goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. North Florida added an insurance goal in the second period when Thais Reiss took a pass from Sydney Hauth on a give-and-go to push the lead to the final of 2-0.
Coastal Carolina will return to action as they will travel across the state to Clemson, S.C. to take on in-state rival Clemson on Sunday, Aug. 25, with a scheduled kickoff of 6 p.m.
