Clemson Downs Chants on Sunday Night

Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team drops to 0-2 on the young season

Clemson, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to the Clemson Tigers of the Atlantic Coast Conference 6-0 on Sunday evening at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson. With the loss, the Chants fall to 0-2 on the young season while the win improved the Tigers record to 2-0 overall.

The young Chanticleers had two freshmen make their college debuts with midfielder Lindie Clark and goalkeeper Ky Hudson (two saves) seeing action.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when Maliah Morris found the back of the net off the assist from Kimber Haley and Hal Hershfelt for the only score in the first half

However, the Tigers picked up five goals in the second half to pull away for the win. Clemson's Mariana Speckmaier (52nd and 53rd minutes) made it 3-0 by getting two quick goals early in the second period as Renee Guion tallied the first of her three assists, on the second Speckmaier score. Julie Mackin (58th minute), Jackson Moehler (62nd minute), and Dani Antieau (68th minute) closed out the scoring for the home team.

With the Tigers playing aggressive and pushing the attack all night long, the Chants were unable to register a shot for the contest in the loss.

The Chants will return to action on Thursday, Aug. 29, as they will travel to Wilmington, N.C. to take on the UNCW Seahawks. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
