Wilmington, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to UNCW on Thursday night, dropping a 3-1 road contest to the Seahawks on the road in Wilmington, N.C. With the loss, the Chants fall to 0-3 on the young season while the Seahawks remain unbeaten at 3-0
Despite being pressured and on the defensive for the majority of the first half, the Chants fell behind just 1-0 in the 43rd minute. UNCW's Audrey Harding corralled a pass from Kendall Augsburg to beat the diving goalkeeper for her first tally of the season.
Coastal had its best opportunity in the opening period when
Hannah Miller stepped to the penalty spot with a chance at the equalizing goal but the attempt was denied by the Seahawks goalkeeper.
UNCW opened the second half scoring with an early goal in the 53rd minute when Dominique Martinez doubled the home team's lead at 2-0 off the assists from Emily Moxley and Morgan Nanni.
Freshman
Santana Pressley put the Chanticleers on the board with her first career and team's first goal of the season to pull within one in the 85th minute. Freshman
Megan Brouse fired a corner kick to the middle of the box allowing Miller to chip a shot towards the goal before Pressley pushed a shot by the Seahawks goalkeeper to trail 2-1.
UNCW's Harding found the back of the net for an insurance goal for the home team to make it 3-1 in the 88th minute beating the aggressive Chanticleer team looking for the match-tying goal.
Coastal will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 1 as they will travel to former Big South rival Campbell. The kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
