Buies Creek, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team dropped a road contest to former Big South foe Campbell 2-0 on Sunday evening in Buies Creek, N.C. With the loss, the Chants fall to 0-4-0 on the season while the Camels improved to 1-1-1.
Campbell opened the scoring in the fifth minute when the Chanticleers defense was unable to get a clean clear. The Camels' Alexa Ganas found the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead where the score remained until intermission.
The host Camels added an insurance goal for the 2-0 lead in the 74th minute on a Rosie O'Neil header over the outstretched arms of the Coastal goalkeeper. Delaney Baumbick and Jessica Donald picked up the assists on the tally.
The Chanticleers were able to apply some offensive pressure but came up empty on their 17 shot attempts.
Sunny Sigurvinsdottir and
Mackenzie Gibbs each fired four shots each while
Hannah Miller attempted three.
Coastal Carolina is set to return home to the CCU Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 5, when it will host the Jacksonville Dolphins. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. weather permitting.
