
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina football returns home to host Norfolk State on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. The home contest on Saturday afternoon is the only home game for the Chanticleers for September.
Faculty and Staff Day
• Coastal Pride will be on display for Faculty and Staff Day on Saturday, Sept. 14.
• There will be a pregame tailgate from Noon-1:30 p.m. on the third-floor balcony at Springs Brooks Stadium where faculty, staff and their families can enjoy food, live music and giveaways prior to kickoff at 2 p.m.
• Tickets are just $15 for the game and tailgate. For season ticket holders, the tailgate ticket is just $5. Deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Noon at the Coastal Carolina Athletics Ticket Office located in Arcadia Hall.
Extra Yard for Teachers Gift
• The Sun Belt Conference, Coastal Carolina University and the Coastal football program are excited to announce that Coastal has received a $10,000 gift from the College Football Playoff Foundation and their Extra Yard for Teachers Initiative program.
• As part of the CFP Extra Yards for Teacher's week across the nation, Coastal Carolina University President David A. DeCenzo and Director of Athletics
Matt Hogue will present the gift to Horry County Schools' superintendent Dr. Rick Maxey in an on-field presentation during our next home football game on Saturday, Sept. 14 versus Norfolk State.
• We are offering a discounted ticket to all school system employees for our home game versus Norfolk State in appreciation for all that they do for the youth in our community.
• The $10,000 gift is to benefit the partnership between the University, Coastal Athletics, and Horry County Schools. Horry County Schools will use the grant for funding for a new program they are starting called "Rookie Teacher of The Year".

Relocated Chants
• Coastal was relocated last week due to the forecast of Hurricane Dorian hitting the South Carolina coast, specifically around the Myrtle Beach/Conway area.
• The Chanticleers drove to Greenville, S.C. on Monday, Sept. 2 and practiced in the upstate at a local high school and two nearby universities (Clemson and Furman) before flying to Kansas on Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, for Saturday night's contest.
Making the Best of a Stormy Situation
• Over the last two seasons, the Chants have been evacuated from campus a total of four weeks combined.
• Over those four weeks, the Chants have played four games and gone 3-1 overall during those times of being relocated or moved to a different location due to a hurricane.

Series Versus Norfolk State
• Coastal and Norfolk State have never met before on the football gridiron until today.

• While Coastal Carolina has never played Norfolk State, the two coaches in this game in
Jamey Chadwell and Latrell Scott both have had teams play the other school once.
• Coastal's Coach Chadwell is 1-0 versus Norfolk State having defeated the Spartans 20-12 as the head coach of Charleston Southern back in 2013.
• Norfolk State's Coach Scott is 1-0 versus Coastal, as Richmond beat Coastal Carolina 41-19 back in 2010 when he was the head coach of the Spiders.
Scouting the Spartans
• Norfolk State enters the contest on Saturday at 1-1 overall this season with a narrow 24-21 loss at Old Dominion (Aug. 31) and a 44-21 home win over Virginia State last week (Sept. 7).
• The Spartans are averaging 32.5 points per game this season which is second in the MEAC and 38th in all of FCS.
• The Norfolk State offense ranks first in the MEAC in passing yards per game (237.0) and total yards per contest (349.0).
• The NSU offense is led by quarterback Juwan Carter who leads the team in passing yards (402), rushing yards (81) and total touchdowns accounted for with seven (6 passing, 1 rushing).
• The defense is allowing 22.5 points per game and 397.0 yards of total offense per game this season.
• A total of five guys have double-digit tackles on the year led by senior defensive back Bobby Price, while the Spartans have forced three fumbles and recorded four interceptions on the season.
Versus the MEAC
• Coastal, who was an FCS member from 2003-15, is 17-1 all-time versus the MEAC.
• The Chants' lone loss to a MEAC foe was a 23-18 loss at Delaware State on Sept. 1, 2007.

First Time for Everything
• All of Coastal's first three opponents this season - Eastern Michigan (Aug. 31), Kansas (Sept. 7) and Norfolk State (Sept. 14) - will be first time meetings for the Chants.
• CCU played three teams for the first time last season in Campbell, Louisiana, and South Alabama.
• Thus far this season, Coastal is 1-1 versus first-time opponents with the loss to Eastern Michigan (Aug. 31) at home on opening weekend and a 12-7 win at Kansas last weekend (Sept. 7).
Fourth Down Success
• CCU was solid on fourth downs in 2018, as the offense ranked first in the Sun Belt and 10th nationally in fourth-down conversions at 11-of-16 (69 percent).
• The success has continued in the 2019 season thus far, as the Chants are a perfect 4-of-4 on fourth-down attempts this year.
On Coastal Time
• The Chants led the Sun Belt and ranked 15th nationally in time of possession at 32:48 minutes per game last year in 2018.
• This year, Coastal has possessed the ball on average 33:39 minutes per game which is 18th nationally.
One Score
• The Coastal Carolina defense held Kansas to just seven points in a 12-7 win last weekend (Sept. 7).
• The seven points allowed were the fewest by a CCU defense since holding Idaho to only seven points in a 13-7 win on the road on Nov. 18, 2017.
