Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team picks up first 2019 Sun Belt award
New Orleans, La. – Sunny Sigurvinsdottir of the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. The award is the first in the career of the Selfoss, Iceland native and the first for the women's soccer team on the season.
The midfielder scored three goals last week to lead Coastal to the first two wins on the season.
Sigurvinsdottir tallied her first two goals of the 2019 season in the 3-1 victory over Jacksonville. Both goals came in the first half, with the first coming just 38 seconds into the match and the eventual game-winner in the 19th minute. The match was initially scheduled to take place on the campus of Coastal Carolina University but was moved to Rock Hill, S.C. due to the pending impact of Hurricane Dorian.
The junior closed her weekend with her third goal of the season in the Chanticleers 3-1 win against former Big South foe Gardner-Webb.
