Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team opened the fall season on Friday in the College of Charleston Invitational at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. against Charlotte, Wofford, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, and host College of Charleston.
 
The seven Chanticleers combined to go 8-7 along with a first-round bye in the three flights on the first of three days of competition with three advancing to the semifinals of their flight.
 
Newcomers Flaminia Scará and Valentina Urelli each picked up their first career win in the opening matches of their flights. Scará used a pair of three-set wins while Urelli recorded two straight sets for both Chants to win each of their two matches.
 
Junior Somer Dalla-Bona went 1-1 on the day. After dropping her opening match in three sets, Dalla-Bona rebounded with a straight-set win over Sun Belt foe Kate Earnhardt of Appalachian State.
 
Seniors Maria Khomchenko and Alexa Tiefel each picked up wins in their flight to combine to go 2-1 on the day. Khamchenco opened her day with a bye and then followed that with a straight-set victory. Tiefel went 1-1 on the day picking up a first-round straight-set win before falling in the next round.
 
The Chanticleers will return to action at the College of Charleston Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14, for doubles action and the semifinals of the singles in each flight.
