CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina cross country teams were in action at the Queen City Invite on Friday afternoon at McAlpine Park.
Men's Results
For the men on the 8k course, junior
Michael Pieterse was the leading harrier for the Chanticleers as he finished 63rd out of 332 finishers and clocked a time of 27.06
Just four places behind Pieterse was fellow junior
Andrew Avery. Avery finished in 67th position and recorded a time of 27.14.
Also finishing for the Chanticleer team:
Dustin Chambers (90th - 27.46),
Heath Olivieri (101th - 28.02),
Jerardo Perez (141st - 28.53), and
Monroe Thompkins (151st - 29.22).
The freshman foursome of Chambers, Olivieri, Perez, and Thompkins all set personal-best marks in their second career 8k start.
Overall, the Coastal men finished 16th out of 43 teams with a score of 462 points.
Women's Results
For the women on the 5k course, freshman
Grace Cole paced CCU with a 90th-place finish with a personal-best time of 20:22.
Isabel Debari also finished with a personal-best time on the afternoon for the Chanticleers. The clocked a time of 20:54 for 113th- place.
Rounding out the Coastal runners:
Alexis Carpenter (139th - 21:43),
Kelsey Luther (169th - 23:08) , Kerry 0'Connor (195th - 24:50), and
Rebecca Lehman (211th - 26:09).
O'Connor set her personal-best time in her fourth career 5k start.
The women ended the day in 25th place tallying 706 points.
Coastal Carolina will be back on the course on Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Run.
