Women’s Soccer Announces Schedule Change for Sunday

Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team will travel to Boiling Springs, N.C.

CONWAY – Due to the implications of Hurricane Dorian closing the campus, the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will be unable to host Longwood in Conway, S.C. on Sunday, Sept. 8 as originally scheduled and instead will travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a non-conference contest against Gardner-Webb. The kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Coastal Carolina, which was scheduled to host Jacksonville at home on Friday, has relocated to nearby Charlotte, N.C. and will take on Jacksonville on Friday on the campus of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. Following a day off on Saturday, the Chanticleers will make the hour trek to Boiling Springs to battle the Runnin' Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

The Chants lead the all-time series versus GWU at 6-3-1 and have won the last three consecutive contests versus the Runnin' Bulldogs. Ironically, hurricane-like weather played a part in the previous time the two teams met as Coastal tallied a 1-0 overtime victory in 2015 at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The continuous rain caused a slippery playing surface for the two teams and sent the match into overtime. Former Chanticleer Daniella Famili tapped the game-winner past the Bulldogs' goalkeeper after Tara Lyons fired a crossing pass into the center of the box.

Offensively, freshman Santana Pressley has scored the lone goal on the season for the Chants while juniors Sunny Sigurvinsdottir, Mackenzie Gibbs, and senior Hannah Miller all lead CCU in shot attempts.

Gardner-Webb is 0-3-1 overall and is led by the 2019 Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year Stina Kleppe. In an overtime defeat against Georgia Southern last week, Kleppe scored twice and recorded an assist as she played a role in all three of GWU goals. In goal, both Paula Suarez Is, and Katelyn Kellogg have earned starts. Kellogg started the most recent contest, a 1-1 draw against ETSU. Kellogg and Suarez Is have combined to make 22 saves through four matches.
