CARROLLTON, Texas – Coastal Carolina sophomore
Seth Taylor ended day one of play at the highly-touted Maridoe Collegiate Invitational in a tie for 13th-place overall, however, as a team the Chanticleers struggled and finished the first round in 12th-place on the team leaderboard.
The Chanticleers shot a first-round 321, +33, but are just 10 strokes back of eighth-place Oklahoma (311, +23).
The fifth man in the lineup, Taylor carded two birdies and shot a 35, 1-under par, on the front nine. He finished with a 40, +4, on the challenging back nine to end the day tied for 13th with an opening-round 75, +4.
Fellow Chant
Zack Taylor turned in a first-round 81, +9, finishing one shot in front of teammate
Tyler Gray and his round of 82, +10. The duo will enter play on Monday in 53rd and 60th-place, respectively.
Both
Gavin Noble and
Connor Newton shot rounds of 83, +11, to end Sunday in a tie for 64th overall. Noble tied
Seth Taylor with a team-high two birdies on the day, while Newton eagled the par 5, 581-yard Hole 16.
Baylor sits atop of the team leaderboard after one round of play at 299, +11, while North Texas (300, +12), Pepperdine (302, +14), Texas (303, +15), and Oklahoma State (304, +16) round out the top five.
The Chants will tee off tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. CT with TCU, East Tennessee State, and Iowa State.
