Women's Soccer Drops Road Match at Troy

Final Box (pdf)

TROY, Ala. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 shutout loss on the road at Troy in Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday afternoon in Troy, Ala.

The Chanticleers were outshot 11-7 for the match, as the Trojans put seven shots on goal compared to the visiting Chants' two.

CCU did hold a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks but was also called for offsides four times.

Coastal looked to jump out to an early lead with three consecutive shots in the first 15 minutes of the match. However, it would be the Troy Trojans who would make good on their shot attempt, as Sydney Babineaux found the back of the net off a pass from Melissa Kuya-Strobel in the 17th minute to put the home team in front 1-0.

CCU goalkeeper Ky Hudson would make three more stops, four overall in the first half, over the remainder of the opening half to keep the Chants' within striking distance at 1-0 at the halftime break.

In the second half, the two teams each traded a shot before Mackenzie Gibbs nearly tied the game up with an equalizer in the 63rd only to see the low shot stopped by Troy's goalkeeper Lindsey LaRoche.

Looking to add to its lead, the Trojans fired off the next three shot attempts, two sailing offline with the third being saved by Hudson once again, to keep the score at 1-0 with just under 15 minutes left in the contest.

The Chants' last chance to get on the scoreboard came in the 79th minute on a Taylor Tolson shot attempt that flew high over the goal, as the Trojans held on for the 1-0 home win.

Hudson finished the match with six saves, while Troy's Laroche tallied two stops to pick up the win.

Lo Austin led the offensive attack for the Chants with three shot attempts, putting one on frame, while Sunny Sigurvinsdottir recorded two shots, and both Tolson and Gibbs accounted for one apiece.

Coastal (5-3, 5-3 Sun Belt) will remain on the road to take on Appalachian State (3-8-1, 3-6 Sun Belt) next week, Sunday, Oct. 25, at noon ET in Boone, N.C.
