Final Box (pdf)

CONWAY, S.C. – Senior midfielder Mackenzie Gibbs blasted in a shot from in front of the goal to give Coastal Carolina a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern in the regular season finale Wednesday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

It was Gibbs' fourth goal of the season and 10th of her career. It was also the fourth match-winner during her CCU career.

The Eagles (3-9-1 / 3-6-1 SBC) outshot CCU in the first half 8-2 as the visitors controlled most of the opening 45 minutes.

The second half was much different as the Chants came out more energized in the second half and dominated most of the period.  CCU took six shots compared to two for Georgia Southern with Gibbs unassisted goal coming in the 58th minute.

Gibbs led CCU (6-4 / 6-4 SBC) with three shots and all three were on goal. Loranna Austin came off the bench and had two shots for the Chants.

Ky Hudson did her part in the goal picking up her fourth shutout of the year. She played all 90 minutes in goal and had four saves.

With the win, CCU finishes the regular season in third place in the East Division. The Sun Belt Championship will begin Monday, Nov. 2, and will be played in Foley, Ala. The Sun Belt Conference will determine the first round matches later this week.
