Cross Country Ready for Sun Belt Championships

Chanticleers will run in the conference championships on Halloween
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's and women's cross country teams will travel south to Mobile, Ala. to compete at this year's Sun Belt Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The Chanticleers will have seven runners compete for the championship on the women's side led by sophomore Ashley Rulison, the lone Chant runner to compete in last year's championship meet, who finished 42nd overall with her time of 19:09.1 in 2019.
This season, Rulison posted two top-10 finishes over the Chants' two events by crossing the finish line third overall with a time of 21:02.5 at the 2020 Chanticleer Challenge and finishing seventh with a mark of 22:13.9 at the 2020 GATA Classic.
The other six Chants in Marissa Kilgarriff, Rebecca Lehman, Mya Ray, Molly Jones, Sydney Swanker, and Arionne Riddick will be making their Sun Belt Championship debuts on Saturday.
Kilgarriff was the top Chant finisher with a runner-up finish with a time of 20:39.7 at the 2020 Chanticleer Challenge, while Lehman and Ray crossed the finish line with times of 25:15.2 and 27:20.6, respectively, and Swanker competed but did not finish.
Jones and Riddick will both be making their Chanticleer debuts on Halloween.
On the men's side, freshman Brad Wiggins and sophomore Monroe Thompkins will lead four CCU runners in the 8K championship event.
Wiggins was the top finisher for the Chants in each of their two meets this season, placing third at the 2020 Chanticleer Challenge with a time of 28:35.5 and posting a time of 28:52.01 at the 2020 GATA Classic.
Thompkins, the lone other Chanticleer to run in both meets this season, finished seventh overall with a time of 30:12.5 at the 2020 Chanticleer Challenge and finished the 2020 GATA Classic with a time of 29:36.88.
Despite running in just one meet this year, the 2020 Chanticleer Challenge, the most experienced runner on the team is senior Doug Mullen. Mullen recorded a personal-best time of 25:44.1 at the 2019 Sun Belt Championships last year, placing 25th overall.
Freshman Myles Carrico will be making his CCU debut at the championships.
