STATESBORO, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer program picked up their third regular-season Sun Belt Conference Championship and 15th overall regular-season title with a 3-0 win at Georgia Southern on Friday night in Statesboro, Ga.
The match started out as a defensive stalemate without either team getting a shot off until the 14th minute when
Marcello Jones was able to score an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead. It would be the only goal the Chants would need.
It didn't take long for CCU (5-1 / 5-1 SBC) to get back on the scoreboard when Jones found
Noah Glorioso who put the ball in the back of the net just 48 seconds after CCU's first score.
That score stood until halftime as the Chants defense did a great job controlling the first 45 minutes and did not allow a Georgia Southern shot.
The second half was much like the first with the Chants on the offensive the entire second half taking nine shots. Georgia Southern (1-8 / 0-6 SBC) only took three shots for the match with all three coming in the final two minutes of play.
Claudio Repetto put the finishing touches on the win with an unassisted goal with less than a minute left in the match.
CCU will be the number one seed in next week's Sun Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championship that will be held in Atlanta, Ga. The bracket will be released over the weekend by the Sun Belt Conference office.
