COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers closed out the final day of competition at the Carolina Challenge on the campus the University of South Carolina with three more personal bests broken.
In the 800 meters on Saturday afternoon, senior Alyssa LeClaire completed the third-best performance in the Sun Belt this season as she finished with a fourth-place time of 2:15.47. The Peachtree City, Ga., native finished just over four seconds behind the winner, Emma Kuntz of Furman (2:11.81).
The Chanticleer trio of Tariney Pepper, Erin Palmer, and Guerdine Michel took part in the 200 meters and added personal best times.
The freshman Pepper shaved less than a minute (.57) off her previous personal best for a time of 25.46. Fellow freshman Palmer knocked off .85 seconds for a time of 26.03, and the sophomore Michel competed in her first career 200-meter, logging a time of 27.70.
North Carolina's Delecia McDuffie won the 200-meter race with a time of 23.89
Freshman Kadasia Evans competed against 20 others in the high jump and was able to finish sixth-place or higher for the third time in three career competitions. The Darlington, S.C., native finished in sixth-place as she cleared the height of 1.60 meters.
North Florida jumper Kaley Petrosky won the day's high jump, eclipsing the height of 1.69 meters.
Freshman Ty-Layshia West threw a personal best 12.77 meters in the shot put to finish in ninth-place. Winner Brittany Cox won the event with a throw of 15.50 meters.
Freshman Jaquoia Williams finished the long jump invite with her best jump of the day of 5.41 meters, good for ninth-place. Unattached athlete Tiffany Flynn won the event with her best throw of 6.21 meters.
The Chanticleer women will have a week off and then return to action on Valentines Day Weekend, Feb. 14-15 at the VMI Indoor Classic.
