Rock Hill, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team picked up its third-straight win with a 5-2 victory over former Big South foe Winthrop at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Coastal improved to 3-1 while the Eagles fell to 0-7.
 
The Chanticleers opened play by sweeping all three doubles contests to go ahead 1-0. Joel Popov and Zak Talic defeated Lluis Miralles and Miha Velicki 6-3 while the tandem of Gonzalo Achondo and Pyry Hyrkkonen clinched the point for CCU with a 6-4 win over Abhi van Nemreddy and Connor Williamson. Franceso Cori and Daiki Tanabe won the final doubles match 6-4 over Rhys Jones and James Hartson.
 
In singles action, Coastal earned wins on courts No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 to record the final score of 5-2. Hyrkkonen recorded a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win over Williamson in the No. 2 position. Achondo, Tanabe and Popov all needed three sets to score their points for the Chanticleers. Achondo won the final two sets after dropping his opening set to Miralles for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win on court No. 3. Tanabe followed with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 three-set win over Velicki while Popov recorded a 1-6,-6-4, 6-3 win to record the fifth point.
 
Coastal Carolina returns to the court on Friday, Feb. 21 as they will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on South Carolina State. The first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
