NORFOLK, Va. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team scored four-straight goals early in the first half and did not look back in picking up a season-opening 12-8 road win at Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, Va.

Coastal also held an advantage in ground balls at 20-11, extra-man opportunities at 4-2, and in saves at 5-4, while forcing ODU into 20 turnovers compared to their 16 miscues.

ODU took an early 1-0 lead on a Johnson unassisted goal at the 28:33 mark of the first half, only to see the Chants respond with four-straight scores from Bozzi (26:33), Buchanan (25:33), Bozzi again (25:06), and Robinson (22:18) to give the visitors a 4-1 lead with just over 22 minutes before intermission.
After the two teams traded goals to put CCU up two at 5-3 with just under 15 minutes to play in the opening half, back-to-back unassisted goals by Close (9:05) and Bozzi (6:53), followed by a free position goal from Kilpatrick (5:56) pushed the Chants in front by five at 8-3 at the halftime break.
The Monarchs came out with a flurry of offense to start the second half, scoring three-straight goals to cut the Chants lead to two at 8-6 before Buchanan's second goal of the game with 22:51 to play ended the ODU scoring run and put the Chants back in front by three at 9-6.
ODU would score two more goals over the next 10 minutes of play, only to have the Chants answer each goal with a score of their own, as Kilpatrick (13:54) and Robinson (4:02) goals kept the visitors in front as time ticked down.
Davis (0:01) capped the win with a goal in the final second of the contest to give the Chants a 12-8 road win.
