Coastal Carolina women’s tennis wins fourth-straight match

Orlando, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team defeated Keiser 4-3 in a dual match held on the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. late Monday afternoon. With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 6-3 on the year while the Seahawks fell to 10-3 for the season.

Keiser took an early 1-0 lead picking up the doubles point on courts No. 3 and No. 2 despite dropping the first set on court No. 1. Coastal's duo of Alexa Tiefel and Flaminia Scara picked up the quick 6-0 win over Anais Ruyssen and Sarah Schaerer to give CCU the one set advantage.

In singles action, the Chants scored victories on courts No. 5, No. 2, No. 1, and No. 3 to secure the 4-3 match win.

On court five, Alicja Zduniak won the first set 6-1 over Schaerer and led the second set 2-1 before getting the quick win due to the retirement of her opponent to even the match up at 1-1.

CCU's Scara put the Chants in front 2-1 with the straight-set win over Dugleisy Linarez 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 position.

Coastal would go up 3-2 as Iryna Vardanian picked up a hard fought 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 three-set win over Anais Gabriel on the first court.

Keiser would even the match up at 3-3 as Lisa Khamassi would need all three sets to get a 6-0, 6-7 (3), 10-6 victory over Maria Khomchenko on court No. 4.

CCU's freshman Valentina Urelli clinched the match win with the second Coastal three-set win on the day. At the No. 3 position, Urelli dropped the first set 6-7 to Ruyssen before rebounding 7-6, 10-6 for the match win.

Coastal Carolina will return to the courts on Sunday, March 15 as the Chants will open Sun Belt Conference play by hosting Arkansas State in Conway, S.C. at the Lynn Stevens Tennis Complex. The first serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET.
