Viken and Ölund will transfer in from the West coast
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men's golf head coach Jim Garren has announced the addition of two transfers in Jørgen Viken (Kongsberg, Norway/Concordia University-Portland) and Viktor Ölund (Danderyd, Sweden/Concordia University-Portland) to the Chanticleers 2020-21 roster.
Both Viken and Ölund are transferring to Coastal Carolina University after playing their freshman seasons at Concordia University-Portland in 2019-20.
"I'm excited to add both Jørgen and Viktor to our program. Both are high-quality young men and already quite accomplished college players," stated Garren. "A really exciting part of this addition is that they come from a great golf program at the Division II level and are total team guys. They will fit in well in our culture here at Coastal. Both guys have the ability to really produce for us and we are ready to get them (as well as all our guys) on campus."
Viken was having a record-setting freshman season in 2019-20 before it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ranked as high as No. 78 in the Golfstat national rankings, he had a 71.8 stroke average on the year, which is the lowest in a single season in Concordia history, and ranked second overall in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). He was named the GNAC Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the GNAC men's golf all-conference first team.
The Kongsberg, Norway native, who made the GCAA Ping Division II All-West Region team, recorded two top-10 individual finishes with a sixth-place finish at the Concordia Invitational and a seventh-place showing at the Western Washington Invitational.
Prior to coming to the United States and Concordia in the fall of 2019, Viken had several strong finishes in Norway, placing in a tie for third as an amateur at the Garmin Norgescup on the Norwegian Pro Tour, finishing in a tie for fourth overall at the Srixon Tour Larvik on the Norwegian Junior Tour, and finishing in a tie for 12th-place at the Swedish Golf Tour Borre Pro Event.
"Jørgen is an accomplished player and he has all the tools to be a high-level guy," continued Garren. "He was one of the top players in the country this year at the DII level and has proven success all over the world."

Ölund was also having a strong freshman campaign with the Cavaliers, as he had a 72. 8 stroke average on the season, which ranked eighth in the GNAC. Ranked as high as No. 35 among golfers under the age of 21 in Sweden, the Danderyd, Sweden native picked up a tournament win in his final event at Concordia this spring, shooting -4 under par to earn medalist honors at the Bay Area Invitational. His tournament-winning score was highlighted by a 65, - 7 under par, second round, as he turned in seven birdies and 11 pars on his scorecard. His 65 tied the lowest round by any GNAC player on the year and matched Viken for the lowest round by a CU player in 2019-20.
He was named to the GNAC men's golf all-conference first team along with Viken.
Following his win, he was named the GNAC Player of the Week.
"Viktor is an extremely athletic guy. A big kid who's just now starting to grow into his potential as a golfer," Garren stated. "Case in point, he won Concordia's last event before the season was canceled. It's nice to have a guy who has won at the collegiate level joining our program."
