Chant Trio Named to 2010-19 Big South Women’s Golf All-Decade Team

Big South Conference announced its 2010s All-Decade Team
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina had a trio of Chanticleers in Jessica Alexander, Brittany Henderson, and Lena Schaeffner named to the Big South 2010-19 Women's Golf All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires, the league office announced today.
The league's All-Decade Teams were first unveiled as part of the Big South's 30th Anniversary celebration in 2013-14 to recognize the student-athletes and coaches who excelled in their respective sport in each decade since the conference's founding in 1983.
Alexander was a four-time All-Big South performer (2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013) and named the 2011 Big South Women's Golfer of the Year after she earned medalist honors at the 2011 Big South Women's Golf Championship Tournament with a first-place finish and tournament-low score of 225, +9. She was also the 2010 Big South Women's Golf Freshman of the Year and a key part of the Chanticleers winning the Big South Championship Tournament in 2011 and 2013.
Named to the 2013 Big South All-Championship, the first year that the team was announced, she was also a six-time Big South Women's Golfer of the Week award winner.
Alexander competed for the Chants in three NCAA Regional events (2010, 2011, and 2013) and was the top golfer for Coastal at the 2011 NCAA Championship in which she finished in a tie for 37th overall with a 72-hole score of 299, +11.
Henderson was a two-time Big South medalist, winning as an individual at the championship tournament in both 2012 and 2013. Tabbed the 2013 Big South Women's Golfer of the Year and the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Henderson was a four-time All-Big South selection (2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013) and earned a spot on the inaugural Big South All-Championship team in 2013. She was also a key part of the Chanticleers winning the Big South Championship Tournament in both 2011 and 2013.
One of just six women golfers in the Big South to play in four NCAA Regional events (2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013), she also placed in a tie for 88th at the 2011 NCAA Championship with a 72-hole score of 310, +22.
Schaeffner was the 2015 Big South Women's Golf Championship individual medalist and the 2015 Big South Women's Golfer of the Year. A three-time All-Big South selection (2014, 2015, and 2016), she was also named to the Big South All-Championship team all four years (2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016) and was a member of the 2013 Big South All-Freshman team.
A nine-time Big South Women's Golfer of the Week recipient, Schaeffner was also named the 2016 Big South Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and twice earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic team (2015 and 2016).
A vital part of two Big South Tournament championship team titles for Coastal Carolina in 2013 and 2015, Schaeffner played in two NCAA Regionals (2013 and 2015) and competed as an individual in the 2015 NCAA Championship after finishing as runner-up at the 2015 NCAA Raleigh Regional event with a team-best score of 214, 2-under par.
The trio joins five other Chanticleer women golfers that have received Big South All-Decade Team honors. Kim Chase (Big South Medalist, Big South Golfer of the Year, three-time all-conference), Laura Thijssen (four-time all-conference), and Sue Tollefson (four-time all-conference) were all named to the 1990-99 all-decade team while Aruka Felgueroso (All-American, three-time Big South Golfer of the Year, Big South Freshman of the Year, two-time Big South Medalist, two-time NCAA Regional individual qualifier, four-time all-conference) and Ann Maness (Big South Medalist, Big South Freshman of the Year, four-time all-conference) each earned a spot on the 2000-09 all-decade team.
A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
The 2010-19 Women's Golf All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order and features 10 players and one head coach. In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.

About the Big South All-Decade Teams
Women's Golf All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following:
1) Was a multiple all-conference honoree;
2) Was named an All-American;
3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame;
4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or left their respective institution in good academic standing;
5) Won a conference championship as a coach and/or was voted conference Coach of the Year;
6) Players of the Year, Tournament MVPs, and first-team all-conference honorees will be among the candidate pool for the 2010-19 All-Decade Teams.
Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions. Member institutions also had final determination in regards to the inclusion of student-athletes and coaches.
