Alumni Spotlight: Greg Orsimarsi

Today's Chanticleer Alumni Spotlight showcases Greg Orsimarsi, a member of the Coastal Carolina baseball program from 1999-2004.
From 2001-04, Orsimarsi hit .210 with five home runs, 32 RBIs, and stole 10 bases over 126 games played.
In 2004, he became just the sixth Chanticleer to earn Big South Academic All-Conference accolades.

1. Where are you living now and what are you doing?
I am a dentist in Charleston, S.C. I have been practicing here for the last 12 years. My beautiful wife, Frances, also a Coastal alum, and I have two amazing daughters. Sloan is nine years old and Riley is seven.
2. What did you do right after you left CCU?
After I left CCU, I moved to Charleston and attended the Medical University of South Carolina's College of Dental Medicine.
3. What do you remember most vividly about your time at CCU?
I remember how hard everyone worked. I was blessed to play with a lot of amazingly talented players. One thing every one of them had in common was that they worked hard every day.
4. Do you still stay in touch with teammates or other alums from Chanticleer baseball? How would you describe the relationship between fellow CCU baseball alums?
I do stay in touch with a handful of teammates. I've never gotten into any social media so it makes it challenging to keep up with everyone. During the 2016 run, it was great being on a text chain with so many Coastal baseball alums. There was great conversation on that thread that seemed to make me smile every day for quite some time. I realize everyone says this but Coastal Baseball is truly a family. It really is that simple.
5. What was your BEST day at CCU?
I was long gone by June 30, 2016, but that is easily my best day as a Chant! It was an emotional day filled with reflection. I was so happy for Coach Gilmore, the assistant coaches, and of course the players. Coach Gilmore and so many others had given their entirety to Coastal baseball and they were so deserving of that moment. Hard to describe the pride I'm sure every Coastal baseball alum felt that day.
6. What are some lessons you learned at CCU that have served you well in your life after CCU?
I think the biggest lesson I learned at CCU was how to fail. Everyone fails and most of us fail a lot. Learning how to use that failure as motivation for future successes is something I believe I developed during my time at Coastal.
7. How often do you keep in touch with your former teammates?
A few of us have stayed very close and we luckily have been able to get together for exciting life events like weddings, bachelorettes, engagement parties, etc But we all live somewhat far away so it can be a challenge!
8. What advice would you have for the current student-athletes at Coastal?
Be intentional!
9. Describe Chanticleer baseball in three words.
Impossible to describe Coastal Baseball in three words but I'll give it my best shot ... tenacious, grit, and loyal.
