Men’s Golf Announces 2020 Fall Slate

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will play in three fall events
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team will play in three fall tournaments this season, head coach Jim Garren announced today.
"We are very excited to be able to compete this fall. I would like to thank the Sun Belt Conference and our administration for the opportunity to get out and do what we do. This fall will be a little different in terms of some of the formatting that we will see but I think we have done a nice job of putting together the most competitive schedule we possibly could," commented Garren. "We are going to see a lot of conference foes in our first two events which will be a nice measuring point moving forward once we get into the spring season."
For competition, the Chanticleers will follow all Sun Belt testing and COVID-19 protocols.
The Chanticleers will tee off the 2020 fall slate at the Graeme McDowell Invitational on Sept. 29-30 in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day event will be hosted by UAB at the Greystone Golf Country Club and will include a tournament field of UAB, Coastal, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, South Alabama, Louisiana, ULM, Troy, Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, East Tennessee State, Augusta, and Jacksonville State.
Coastal will continue its fall competition at the Grove Intercollegiate hosted by Middle Tennessee at The Grove Golf Club on Oct. 12-13 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The fall event will include another strong field in Middle Tennessee, Coastal, Troy, Louisiana, South Alabama, Appalachian State, ULM, Georgia Southern, Western Kentucky, Southern Miss, Lamar, Chattanooga, Francis Marion, and Mercer.
The abbreviated fall season will wrap up with one of the premier college events this fall in The Maridoe Invitational. The 54-hole stroke play competition will be contested Sunday, Oct. 18 through Tuesday, Oct. 20 and will consist of Baylor, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee, Iowa State, Kansas, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech.
"It's going to be a fun fall campaign," continued Garren. "It's going to look different than the last couple of years in terms of where we normally go and how many different schools we play against. I think you're going to notice that there are essentially three college golf bubbles going this fall season. The SEC is locked in on their bubble, the Big 12 has their mini bubble going, and then we have a bubble of a mixture of some teams from a few different leagues in the Sun Belt, Conference USA, American, Big South, etc. We are going to see a lot of the same teams this fall so it'll be a nice way to check our improvement from the first event until the end. We are just excited to get out and compete."
