CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will travel to Troy, Ala., this weekend for a two-game Sun Belt Conference series against the Troy Trojans. Coastal and Troy will play the first game at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 22, with the second game tipping off at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The Chanticleers (3-5, 0-4 SBC) will be looking for its first Sun Belt Conference victory of the season against Troy (7-4, 3-1 SBC), which has won three consecutive conference games. During the series, both coaching staffs will be wearing black and gold ribbons as they honor and support Southern Miss head coach Joye Lee-McNelis as she again battles lung cancer.
Coastal will be led by junior forward
Aja Blount, a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, and emerging star
Deaja Richardson. Blount is second on the team in scoring average with 12.8 points per game and leads the team with 8.1 rebounds per game.
Richardson, who gained her eligibility after transferring from Tennessee State four games ago, leads the team with 13.0 points per game. The 5-9 guard from Kernersville, N.C., was second on the team in scoring to Blount in each of her first two games at South Alabama before leading the Chants with 15 and 18 points, respectively, in two home games against Georgia State last weekend.
Troy is led by Alexus Dye, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, with averages of 18.0 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Felmas Koranga is also averaging a double-double on the season for the Trojans with 13.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+, the Chanticleers Sports Network at 105.5 Hank FM, and online at www.GoCCUsports.com.
