CLEMSON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team recorded six top-10 finishes on day one of the highly-touted Bob Pollock Invitational held at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex on Friday night.
Freshman
Jermaisha Arnold continued her dominance in the 400-meters, as she posted her third consecutive win, this time racing to the finish line in a time of 54.01, a new personal best and also the second-fastest time in CCU indoor history.
Also posting a top-five finish on Friday was sophomore
Melissa Jefferson with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with her personal-best time of 7.43, which she registered in both the preliminaries and the finals. Her time of 7.43 is the second-fastest in school history behind Erica Peake's record of 7.39.
Staying in the sprint events, freshmen
Lauren Gordon and
Kayla Sweeney also turned in top-10 finishes on the night. Gordon raced to a ninth-place showing in the 400-meters with a new personal-best time of 56.99, knocking off almost a full two seconds from her previous best time. Sweeney finished 10th in the 60-meter dash with her time of 7.63, a new personal-best time and the 10th-best mark in school history.
Fellow freshman
Shani'a Bellamy (7.78) and
Keniah Wallace (7.84) both turned in personal-best times to finish 18th and 22nd, respectively, in the 60-meter dash on Friday.
Running for the first time this season, sophomore
Ashley Rulison registered a runner-up finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:29.46, finishing two spots ahead of freshman
Sydney Swanker and her time of 18:30.57, good enough for fourth overall.
In the 60-meter hurdles, a trio of Chants competed in
Sydney Clemens,
Erin Palmer, and Bellamy. Clemens led the Chant-triad with a personal-best time of 8.74 to finish 13th overall, while Palmer and Bellamy finished 17th and 18th, respectively, with times of 8.97 and 9.00.
Sophomore
Jaquoia Williams recorded a long jump of 5.25 meters in the long jump event to place 17th, placing two spots in front of classmate
Nikki Boon and her leap of 5.18 meters, a new personal best. Freshman
Mycal Bowser finished 21st overall with her mark of 5.08 meters.
In the weight throw event, sophomore
Kacey Lombard set a new personal record with a throw of 13.73 meters, good enough for 19th overall, while freshman
Alexis Estep turned in a toss of 12.19 meters to place 22nd.
