Men's Golf Opens Play at Isleworth Collegiate with a 12-over 300

Newton cards an even-par in the opening round
WINDEMERE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a 12-over 300 to open play at the Isleworth Collegiate Sunday afternoon at the Isleworth Country Club to end the opening day of action in 13th place.
Senior Connor Newton led the Chanticleers on the opening day of action. He shot an even-par 72 (37-35) while having three birdies, three bogeys, and 12 pars and is tied for 17th heading into the second round.
Gavin Noble shot a solid three-over 75 in the opening round carding a 37-38 and is tied for 45th. Seth Taylor shot a four-over 76 (39-37) and is tied for 48th.
Trey Crenshaw was only one stroke back with a five-over 77 (38-39) and is tied for 56th, while Tyler Gray finished nine-over with an 81 (44-37) putting him in a tie for 71st.
Arizona State showed why it is the fourth-ranked team in the nation with an impressive 11-under par 277 showing. The Sun Devils were the only team to shoot under-par in today's round and hold a solid 11-stroke lead over Auburn who is second after shooting an even-par 288.
There are only 13 strokes that separate Auburn and the rest of the field. West Virginia, North Florida, and Illinois are tied for third after shooting a one-over 289, while South Carolina is only one stroke back in sixth with a two-over 290.
LSU is seventh at three-over 291. Host Central Florida and California are tied for eighth at four-over 292. Florida is 10th after shooting a five-over 293. Minnesota and Augusta are two strokes in front of CCU (+12, 300) with a 10-over 298, while SMU is 14th with a 13-over 301.
