Arafi Leads Women's Golf into Lead at the Buccaneer Classic

Senior sets two school records
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team shot a 14-under 562 (289-274) during the first two rounds of the Buccaneer Classic at Oak Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island. The Chanticleers lead the event heading into Tuesday's third and final round.
Senior Tiffany Arafi continued her record-setting season adding two more CCU records and tying another. Arafi came out in the morning round and shot a solid three-under 69, but it was the afternoon round where Arafi picked up some steam. She shot a three-under on the first nine holes and made the turn with consecutive birdies on holes 11 and 12. She added another birdie on 15 and closed out the day with birdies on 17 and 18 for the record-tying 64. She finished the day with 15 birdies, three bogeys, and 18 pars for her -12 under performance.
Arafi's 64 ties her own record she set last week at the Evie Odom Invitational. Her 36-hole score of 132 breaks the old mark of 135, which she again set at the Evie Odom Invite. Her eight-under she completed in the second round is a new school 18-hole record. The previous record was seven-under set last year by former teammate Nicole Abelar.
Arafi entered the event as the reigning Sun Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Week. She also came into the week with a 69.6 scoring average. With her two rounds in the 60's today, she now has seven career rounds in the 60's. She leads the event by five strokes heading into tomorrow's finale.
While Arafi was making her run, she wasn't the only Chant to stand out in today's action. Caitlin Evans-Brand had a career-day with a five-under 139 performance that has her in third place. She opened the day with a 71 in the morning round and did not slow down there as she shot a four-under 68 in the afternoon action.
Sophia Carlsen continued her solid fall season with a one-over 145 (74-71). She is tied for 18th. Sara Sarrion shot a four-over 76 in the first round, but bounced back with a two-under 70 in the afternoon to finish with a two-over 146 and is tied for 20th.
Jenjira Jinangkul finished the day with an 11-over 155 (78-77) and is in a tie for 53rd, while Maika Llarena is tied for 57th after shooting a 14-over 158 (74-84).
The Chants hold a slim one-shot lead over fellow Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia Southern, who finished with a 13-under 563. Limestone is ranked third in the latest Golfstat rankings among NCAA Division II programs and showed their worth with a seven-under 569. Host Charleston Southern (+8 584) and Western Carolina (+12, 588) round out the top-five.
Wofford (+13, 589), Houston Baptist (+16, 592), USC Upstate (+18, 594), Gardner-Webb (+23, 599), and Radford (+31, 607) hold down the next five spots, while Winthrop (+34, 610), Presbyterian (+652), and The Citadel (+92, 658) finish out the field.
