BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team shot an 11-over 299 in Monday's first round of the Club at Olde Stone Intercollegiate to finish the round in third place. The second round was stopped due to darkness and will finish play Tuesday morning, before finishing the event with the third round later in the day.
Senior
Tiffany Arafi continues her incredible fall run and finished the first round in first place at four-under. The reigning Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week turned in a three under 33 to open the day and culminated her run with a one-under 35 on the back nine. It is her third consecutive round she has shot in the 60's while finishing the day's action with four birdies and 15 pars. She entered the final event of the fall with a 68.66 scoring average in the previous three fall events.
Sophia Carlsen had a solid day finishing with a two-over 74. She opened play with a two-over 38 in the first nine holes and shot even par on the back nine.
Sara Sarrion shot a six-over 78 (40-38) in the first round followed by
Caitlin Evans-Brand's seven-over 79 (40-39), and
Jenjira Jinangkul's eight-over 80 (39-41).
Due to wet conditions that had the course being played in cart path only regulations, and the 15-20 mph winds that were making play slow and hard to score on, none of the 14 participating teams were able to break par.
At the top of the leader board after 18 holes is Memphis at seven-over (295). Louisville is second at nine-over (297) and just two strokes in front of the Chanticleers (+11, 299). Oklahoma (+12, 300), and Wisconsin (+15, 303) round out the top five.
Notre Dame and North Texas are tied at sixth after shooting 16-over 304. Morehead State and co-host Western Kentucky are even after carding 19-over 307. Then its Minnesota and Augusta who are even at 23-over 311.
Charlotte (+25, 313), Middle Tennessee State (+27, 315), and Marshall (+33, 321) finish out the field.
Those same conditions slowed first-round play down enough where the second round could not be completed, and so those partial second-round scores will not be used until the second round has been completed. Starting times on Tuesday will be moved up to an 8 a.m. start in order to finish the second round. The third and final round will tee off after all second-round scores are completed.
