WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team posted eight wins on the first day of play at the UNCW Team Invite on Friday.
The Chants swept Mercer in doubles play to start the day, as the duo of
Diego Giraldo and
Federico Garnier defeated the Bears' top duo of David Georgadze and Gueymard by a score of 6-3.
The graduate student duo of
Bastien Huon and
Niccolo Rossi would earn a 6-3 win over Samuel Barrow and Danny Flynn of Mercer. To round out doubles play the duo of
Neil O'Connor and
Guilherme Toresan defeated Samuel Macleod and Alexandr Koiev 6-1.
In the second session of the day, the Chants battled the Davidson Wildcats in singles action, winning five of six bouts.
Huon would get the afternoon started as he earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Juan Camilo Perez Gongora of Davidson. Giraldo would follow with the straight-set victory over Sam Kavarana from the wildcats at 6-4, 6-2, while super senior Garnier defeated Brooks Green 6-3, 6-2 on court three.
Rossi would follow on court four with a straight-set 6-1, 7-5 victory over Luca Lovrich, while CCU picked up a win from Toresan who defeated Jerry Wang of Davidson in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 to round out the action for day one.
The Chanticleers will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. ET against the host UNCW in doubles action.
