Coach Garren adds two Georgia prep standouts to the 2022 roster
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University head men's golf coach Jim Garren has announced the signing of Luke Koenig and Reed Sweigart to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
"We are excited to have both Luke and Reed joining our program, Garren said. "Having these two join us immediately boosters our lineup and adds depth to our roster. These guys are going to have a major impact on this program and we are ready to get them here next Fall."
Koenig hails from Statham, Ga., where he played at North Oconee High School. His prep credentials include winning two American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) championships as well as being a two-time Southeastern Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) titlist.
He was a two-time member of the Georgia team in the Georgia/South Carolina matches. Individually, he was the 2021 4A Georgia High School champion and was named both the 2021 4A Player of the Year and the 2021 Athens Area Player of the Year.
Koenig joins the Chants as the 41st-ranked player in the class of 2022 as ranked by Golfweek.
"Luke is a very talented player. He's a top 50 guy in the Class of 2022 and He's won multiple times on the National level and that is a big thing for us. We travel all over the country playing the best competition in the country so to have a guy come in with that experience level already is a nice. He's a big guy and I think he's only going to get stronger and stronger once he gets in our program. He has a high golf IQ and is always competitive which leads to success at this level."
Sweigart hails from Roswell, Ga., and played his prep golf at Rivers Academy. Like Koenig, Reed has had an impressive prep career that includes being named the 2019 Georgia PGA Player of the Year. He has an SJGT title to his credit and has three top-five finishes at AJGA events.
"Reed has really come into his own over the last year. He just keeps growing and he is a high-speed guy. He hits the ball a long way and his ball flight has really straightened out. He's been very competitive on the national level and he just keeps getting better. His game and skill set will transfer very nicely to the collegiate game."
